The above plaque was unveiled on Monday afternoon, October 5, marking the official opening and dedication of The Strength Center. Head of School Chuck Baldecchi welcomed special guests and noted that this day has been “a long time coming!” The 5,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility is adjacent to the Beck Student Activities Center and Patten Stadium and is one priority of the Vision2020 campaign.
Director of Athletics David Gatoux thanked those responsible for the building over the course of its evolution, including: the Middendorf and Anderson family for their support of and love for Latin, Assistant Athletic Director Dick Sipperly who began the conversations about P.E. and Athletics needs in the early phases (2012), Associate Head of School Fletcher Gregory who led the Steering Committee, Strength and Conditioning Coach David Paige for being the driving force behind heightened student involvement and interest in health and wellness, and finally, Assistant Athletic Director Angel Trimble who brought all the pieces together in the end and is responsible for the name and branding we see throughout.
Senior Marshall Hanson echoed these thanks adding, “The transformation is amazing. The extra square footage has made it possible to work out even in a pandemic. I am in here every chance I get, and I am grateful for the opportunity.”
Before cutting the ribbon and getting a glimpse of The Strength Center in action, Kristin Middendorf, who is also Booster Club President this year, added thanks to her parents (the Andersons) and to Marty’s parents (who could not be here), “for supporting our love and support of Latin.” Kristin and Marty are parents of Brock ’21 and Kayla ’23.
