On Monday, November 5, 2018, the Charlotte Latin Board of Trustees surprised retiring Headmaster Arch McIntosh with a special honor. Current and former trustees – those who have served during his 18 years as Headmaster and supported this effort – gathered to celebrate this occasion as The Leadership Center will be named in his honor – the McIntosh Leadership Center. Mr. McIntosh’s wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Avery, were also surprise guests.

The current 100/200 building will be renovated as part of the Vision2020 campaign to become the new McIntosh Leadership Center, a dedicated space to house our leadership program in the heart of campus. Please read this special edition of LATIN Magazine (p. 38) to learn more.

CLS Board Chair, Thad Sharrett ’89, Associate Headmaster and Director of Finance, Fletcher Gregory, and Director of Leadership Development, Ann Brock ’81, spoke about Mr. McIntosh’s leadership throughout the years and the many ways he has shown his commitment to the Latin community and to the creation of the Latin Leads with Honor program.

After a welcome from Mr. Sharrett, Mr. Gregory addressed his colleague and friend of more than 17 years, “Through your strength of faith and your daily actions, you have embodied the principle of servant leader. Humble yet strong, confident yet caring, shepherding the flock to be the best it can be. So, it is fitting today, that we attempt to recognize your amazing and lasting leadership of Charlotte Latin School with this token of appreciation.”

Mrs. Brock, who co-teaches Mr. McIntosh’s leadership class to seniors, said, “Leadership is certainly a condition of the heart for Arch. It is more about who he is than what he does. It is continuously expressed in his practice. Arch is a serving leader.”

Former Board Chair Jean Davis, describes, “Mr. McIntosh leaves an indelible mark on this community by consistently modeling and emphasizing integrity, empathy and collaboration for students, faculty and staff alike. Those who supported this effort felt that the naming of this new space would be a meaningful way to honor him.”

Thank you, Mr. McIntosh, for your inspiration each and every day. To watch a video of the full reveal, click here.
