Headmaster Arch McIntosh, along with Director of Learning Resources Margaret Sigmon and her staff, teachers and administrators, welcomed the Gorelick family to the Learning Resources Suite in the Lower School on Monday, February 25, 2019.
The occasion was to honor the Gorelick family with the naming of the space to be known as the Gorelick Family Learning Resources Suite. This opportunity was made possible by the generous support of Vision2020 by Gabi and Rael Gorelick, as well as by the William and Patricia Gorelick Family Foundation. In his remarks, Mr. McIntosh noted how happy we are to have the Gorelick family at Latin and that their embrace and support of the Learning Resources program is exemplary. Mr. McIntosh stated how fitting it is that the family chose this program as a naming opportunity. He also shared that his own children were supported by the same program while at Latin.
Mrs. Sigmon echoed this sentiment sharing that the Gorelick family has created a standard for how the seamless process should work between parents, teachers, students and consultants to provide the most effective support.
She noted, “The Gorelick family serves as a model for how this process is supposed to work and they are always open to the recommendations that are presented.” Mrs. Sigmon also offered her personal experience when becoming a parent at Latin in 1985.
She was amazed that the School had such a cutting-edge program that supported the classroom teachers. The Orton-Gillingham Program is still in use today and all Learning Resource teachers at Latin are certified.
Following the unveiling of the plaque by Mr. Bill Gorelick, Rael shared his strong sentiments for Latin and the Learning Resources Program in particular.
“Due to the fact that our children have various learning differences, Learning Resources was the major factor in our school decision. More than three years later, Latin has not only met their needs, but has far exceeded them,” he said.
