This crisp fall morning ushered a much-needed Professional Development day for faculty and staff. Today, however, was also a day for surprises!

Mr. Baldecchi welcomed a small gathering of faculty and staff outside of Belk Gymnasium and the SAC, “We are here today because of the spirited generosity of the Foley family.” As Amy and Jeff Foley stood beside him, Mr. B thanked them for their generosity and for their care and love of Latin. Still, the surprise lingered.

Amy and Jeff Foley are parents of Latin lifers Ashley ’18 and Lauren ’20. As a parent volunteer, Amy shared that over the course of those years — time and time again — she had witnessed the tireless efforts of Latin’s facilities team. A certain few members, however, continued to capture her attention. “They were EVERYWHERE!” And as volunteers for things like May Day Play Day she said, “We would show up, and it was as if magic had occurred.”

“Jeff and I would like to honor these dedicated, selfless, hard-working, reliable, and patient employees for their generosity, sincerity, humor, and their friendship.” Amy then revealed their names —

Fay Lucas, Bonnie Proctor, and Kay Rigo

— die-hard members of the CLS facilities team (who thought they were there for a photo opp). “You will always hold a special place in our hearts.”

A special plaque was unveiled:

“The Foley family honors Fay Lucas, Bonnie Proctor, and Kay Rigo for their dedication and tireless commitment to Charlotte Latin School.”

On behalf of her fellow honorees, Fay thanked the Foleys and Latin, “As much as Latin has given to me, I want to do the same in return every single day. The parents have always been here for us. Thank you.”

Charlotte Latin School observes and enforces all safety precautions with regard to COVID-19, including social distancing and face coverings.
